leaving the world of iMessage seems easy (and is) but it comes off as frustrating.

iMessage uses your data plan to send messages (picture & text) if you turn iMessage off, it uses your "text message plan" to send pictures and text. Keep in mind most plans are unlimited text+talk with a limited amount of data.

When you take a picture with your iphone they are around 2mb each. If you send a bunch or picture texts that can add up quick !

Tmobile gives me 1GB of free fast data each month and when i run out of that i get slowed down to 2g speed (unlimited). When i had iMessage turned on i went over my 1GB free :(

If you send 17 picture messages a day on iMessage at 2mb each thats 34mb/day TIMES 30 days in a month, well thats your 1GB of free data. & this equation doesnt include the web surfing you do...

So whats the benifit of using iMessage? im not really sure,,, maybe picture text send faster over data.

The headache i encountered when i turned off iMessage goes as followed.

I could send and receive "text" messages just fine, but "picture" messages were goofy for a few days. I could send picture texts to people right away. The issue was i couldn't receive any picture texts for 3 days. After a bunch of reading on the internet i learned that it takes 3 days for your iMessage to be fully turned off on the apple servers.

The only drawback to not using iMessage is that i cant text my children on their ipads. I can still facetime them and we now use skype for texting.
